Powering up with Weetbix
Today the whole of Marianville was abuzz with expectation. Mrs Elisha had made an announcment late yesterday afternoon that breakfast would be served to the whole school this morning at 7am. No explanation, no elaboration. So, all the girls trouped out (after already eating their school-supplied bread and marg/jam) not quite sure what to expect, only to be faced by a big group of red-capped, blue-shirted PAU (Pacific Adventist University) students, all outfitted in Weetbix logos, ready to serve up huge bowlfuls of mixed Sanitariam cereals and milk to everyone.
It's apparently part of a week-long outreach campaign mostly feeding the poor and unfortunate in town - but also as part of an outreach to their local schools (the uni is just up the road) in an effort to share what they have, and recognise that despite being a different "brand" of religion, it's the one God they share with us (!) OLSHers.
It was a really nice gesture, and one that was much appreciated not just by the girls, but also by the staff who were also invited with their families to join in this communion of sorts. There was much excitement as girls lined up ready to be served, and watched each other (and the teachers - and Sr Angela!!) munch away. I couldn't help laughing though as our Vice Captain said a rather lengthy grace, asking God that anything "not of you" in the breakfast be made good for them to eat! As Angela said, it's as though she thought the cereal might be laced with arsenic! Judging by the way they all tucked in I'm sure her prayers were answered - though I think more than one of them wished for a little sugar lacing...
