The deck where we had dinner the first night - steak and lobster and mudcrab... Not a bad welcome. The first night we were there, it was the last night for the Carbine Club who were having their annual confrence at Tufi - a very exclusive (apparently) club of older men, often ex-sportsmen/supporters (incl the President of the Kangarooos, much to Jono's awe). There were about 25 or so of them there and it made for a very loud and raucous evening, which they nicely included us in. We sat through an evening of speeches, followed by lewd jokes, followed by more yet more drinking (they'd been at it all day I think) and finishing up (for us anyway) with two of these men telling us well into the night how the young people of Australia were the best in the world and weren't we wonderful and haven't we got the best country in the world and we really are wonderful, no I really mean that, you're jussshht terrific and I wish youse all the best... you can picture it, can't you? Apparently Shippy ended up sleeping on the bar, after getting all the local barmaids to dance with him while he did a Blues Brothers number on the bar.

They were a good group of blokes though - they had been to a village the day before and immediately donated them a water tank so they wouldn't have to walk kilometres for fresh water anymore. Much better than money - totally practical and I'm sure they've already got it organised.
